The Proski Newcastle Northstars have not slowed down in the off-season, instead working doubly as hard to improve the game day experience for supporters and sponsors in 2018.

A number of changes have been made around Hunter Ice Skating Stadium - home to the Northstars - to provide more entertainment and more opportunities to relive the big moments during game days this season.

The biggest change at HISS is the addition of a Jumbotron at centre ice. Its installation has made Newcastle home to the first Jumbotron to be permanently installed centre ice in an Australian arena.

The whole game will unfold on the Jumbotron's screens, providing fans with an experience like never before.

It will help to enhance crowd engagement during the game and provide new entertainment opportunities, as well as a rich advertising platform for businesses and sponsors.

The Jumbotron's content will evolve over the season as we discover what gets the crowd involved in the game more than ever before.

Another change is the installation of a production booth near the skate hire counter, which will enhance the Northstars media crew's production capabilities.

The new booth will help the 'behind-the-scenes' crew enhance the Northstars' gameday livestream experience even further, as well as provide more content for fans to experience online.

The game day experience will also extend both pre- and post-game at our new venue to catch up, Warners at the Bay.

The Premier Hotel in Broadmeadow have been long-time supporters and provided a great venue for the past six years for post-game celebrations but this year the celebrations will be moved close to the rink to Warners at the Bay.

“We have a fantastic relationship with The Premier Hotel," Northstars general manager Garry Dore said.

"We have been with them since 2012. They have taken really good care of us.

“We are really excited about this new opportunity with Warners at the Bay. With a number of our fans and players coming from the Central Coast and further areas we really wanted to have a closer to home venue. It just makes sense for us this season to have a local venue so we can have some great post-game celebrations.

“Warners at the Bay have already been so helpful and they have offered to shuttle fans from the venue before the game and drop them to the rink if they want to enjoy a drink and meal beforehand."

Marty Moose, the Northstars beloved mascot, will return for a fourth year to pump up the crowd, perform wicked tricks on his skateboard, take photos with fans who head along to the game and get up to his intermission mischief such as racing the zamboni in his little zambino.

A staple of Northstars home games, the cheerleaders, will also be back for another season, there to welcome the team onto the ice, celebrate goals, sell raffle tickets and amp up the crowd.

Supporters who head along to home games will also have the opportunity to kit themselves out in Northstars gear as a wide range of merchandise is for sale including scarves, hats, shirts and jerseys.

Jerseys worn in past seasons by players are available to buy, or fans can purchase a new customised jersey.

The blue, white or red jersey - unveiled in 2017 - worn by the Northstars is available to order during game days, or from the Skaters Network Newcastle shop inside HISS any time.

Jerseys are customisable. Pick your size, colour, name and number. It can be your favourite player’s name and number – you can even add an A or C – or select another name and number to wear.
