North Stars now Northstars
Wednesday, April 5, 2017 - Submitted by Peter Lambert

The Proski Newcastle North Stars are now the Proski Newcastle Northstars, dropping the space as part of a minor re-branding.

Northstars as a single word was the original identity of the team that played from Wharf Road in the 1980s, and now matches the naming of the NSW registered club that the AIHL team is associated through, the Newcastle Northstars Ice Hockey Club.

Along with the new-look uniforms in 2017, the name update reflects a sense of pride and nostalgia in the team as it looks back on 15 years in the AIHL and an unmatched record – six Goodall Cups, five minor premierships, and 13 finals appearances.

The Northstars begin their 15 year celebrations on the second week of the 2017 AIHL season.

The Northstars open their home season with a double game weekend against the Sydney Bears on Saturday, April 29, then Canberra Brave on Sunday, April 30.
