The Northstars faced a tough battle on their road trip in Perth. Down 2-0 at the end of the first period, the team went into the first intermission break needing to reset and come out with a better second.
The final 40 minutes of the game were all about the Northstars scoring four unanswered goals to win 4-2 on the road.
“When you travel that far, we want to come away with something to show for it,” Head coach Kevin Noble said. “I’m happy with the three points, and we have some things to clean up, but it was a very gutsy effort by the guys from top to bottom.”
“Our first period wasn’t very good, but not completely poor, and then the last 40 minutes was one of the best efforts I have seen, especially with our short bench.”
“That first 20 minutes, we took our time finding our way in the game, and then once it clicked, the physicality and intensity increased, and we upped our urgency. From here, we need to get some rest, the travel makes it a long weekend, and we get back to work and find a way to be consistent for 60 minutes.”
“We had seven forwards and five defence in that last 40 minutes, so full credit to those guys. They battled and competed, and as I said, it was the best effort of the season, and we are really fortunate that we were able to get that victory.”
“The best takeaway is that we had to play hard to get ourselves back in the game, and the level of exhaustion felt by the guys at the end really shows us where we are now and where we need to be to have success every night.”
The Northstars will play at home next weekend against the Rhinos on Saturday, 20
th May and host the visiting Saint John’s University Johnnies on Sunday, 21
st May.
