The Northstars were victorious at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium on Saturday afternoon defeating the visiting mustangs 5 goals to 2.
A scoreless first period saw the teams go to the first intermission at 0-0, and come out fighting in period two. Two goals to each team saw the second intermission tied again at 2-2, and the Northstars reset and came out for big third period with 3 unanswered goals to secure the win, in front of a capacity crowd.
“I think it’s obviously good to have those two guys back (Darge & Manwarring), as they’re big parts of our team and we’ve certainly missed them. Tonight, we all lifted and stuck with it for a full 60 minutes and that paid off in the end, it went our way” reflected Head Coach Kevin Noble.
“I am so proud of everyone in this club. That was a massive win, not just for the boys but for the whole club. We worked so hard at practice this week and full credit to the boys and coaches who made everything happen, and the hard work shows through how dialled in we were tonight,” shared captain Liam Manwarring with a beaming smile.
“Tonight is a good other conference win for us tonight, we don’t see these guys again (unless we meet them in the finals) but it was good to play the full 60 minutes and get the win” Noble continued, “We turn our mind to Perth now, who had a big win against the top team tonight, the Bears. So we remember how we won tonight’s game and take it into tomorrow night. They’re a team that are certainly getting better and we need to take advantage of being at hope and put together a full 60 minute game like we did tonight”
The crowd made themselves known tonight with their volume billowing onto the ice to energise our team, “Our crowd is the best in the league by far, when they get loud and get the chants going we roll off the back of that and it helped create so much momentum for us, we are so appreciative of them because they are just the best” stated Manwarring.
The Northstars will take on Perth Thunder on Sunday afternoon at 4pm
