Tell us about your goalie training, Nick

We don’t have a goalie coach but we make do with what we have. Frij is pulling resources to try and support us too.

Hardest thing about being a goalie?

We don’t score goals, man. We don’t score goals!

Do you have a fave NHL team or any team at all?

No not really, I just follow the league really. But my favourite team is the Northstars.

Tell us a bit about your playing career

I did high school all over America and bounced around junior teams. I ended up in Newcastle because my old man moved up from Sydney.

Any players that you admire and try to model yourself after?

Bert Malloy, O’Captain my captain. But goalie’s would be Carey Price, but everyone says Carey Price it’s a boring answer. You don’t want that.

What got you into hockey?

I went to a birthday party when I was a kid and they had a little try hockey thing and got stuck with it. I played basketball when I was growing up, but was a short white kid. I was doing well until everyone else started growing.

I had a run at it, I didn’t think I was going to stick with it but then my old man surprised me with new goalie gear at the end of the season, so I grew to love it or something like that.

Biggest practical joker?

Marantz and Kuhner just feed off each other, keep the banter up.

Favourite city to visit and play?

I would say Canberra. The rink is small and the angles are tight. The fans are fun too.

Most memorable rink?

The team I’m on right now in Minnesota. It was a North American league team so we have stupid facilities. Really good surrounded seating its really nice.

Weapon of choice in a zombie apocalypse?

A turtle. Like just laying in the corner, just hide. Like what happens, happens. But leave me out. I could be really good a hiding and wait out the whole event.

DO you have any pre-game rituals?

I was wearing red shorts for a while there. When were on a points streak for a while so I didn’t change what I was wearing which happened to be red jacket, red shorts and orange sneakers. I’m not overly superstitious, but yeah.

Most memorable moment in hockey career?

Did I ever beat Charlie Smart at Nationals? Beating Charlie at Nationals. You guys might need to look that up. If I didn’t win just omit it.
