The Newcastle Rescue Northstars ended the 2019 regular season with a 14-3 win against Adelaide Adrenaline on Sunday night.

It was back-to-back wins for the Northstars in their final games, played at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium, of the season before the AIHL Finals on August 31 and September 1.

On Saturday night, the Northstars defeated Melbourne Mustangs in overtime 3-2.

The win on Saturday saw the Northstars clinch second place for the season.

On Sunday night, the Northstars defeated Adrenaline 14-3 - their highest scoring win of the season.

The Northstars kicked the scoring up to an unprecedented level in period two of Sunday's game. In period two alone, 10 Newcastle goals were scored.

Canadian import Luke Simpson achieved a hat trick in period two. Sammy Banga, Francis Drolet and Ryan scored two goals each.

Northstars rookie Alistair Rye scored a goal in the third period - his first AIHL goal. It earned him the players' player award.

With all games now played for the regular season, the AIHL Finals match ups have been confirmed.

The second-placed Northstars will face third-placed Perth Thunder in one of the semi-finals at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium on Saturday, August 31 while league minor premiers CBR Brave will face Sydney Bears in the other semi-final on Saturday.
