On Sunday afternoon the Northstars fought back from behind to defeat the Adelaide Adrenaline 6-5 in the final minutes of the game.
Down 0-1 at the end of the first period with the first goal to Adrenaline’s Daniel Chen. Northstars Zane Jones and Daniel Berno scored for the Northstars in the second period, but goals from Adrenalines Brett Thompson and Daniel O’Handley gave them the edge closing out 2-3 at the end of the second.
In spite of a number of penalties from the home side, Adelaide were unable to capitalise on any opportunities, “it was one of the areas we were good at tonight” shared Head Coach Kevin Noble.
Assistant Captain Patrick Nadin agreed sharing, “that is something we can take away as a win. We have a world-class centre man in Francis Drolet out there which makes it much easier, and it’s the little things from there that can build off.”
“We need a lot better from the guys, we didn’t play up to the standard of our players that we have in that room, so we were lucky to win tonight.”
“It’s on the guys in the team to be consistent and be their best every night, and we’ve been inconsistent in our game. We have really struggled to put together 60 minutes of our game, and today we were fortunate and lucky to get the win.”
Period three saw Thompson score his second and Zach Boyle get his first of the game for Adrenaline, but an early goal from Francis Drolet helped lift the home team and with three unanswered goals from Josh Adkins and two by Riley Klugerman late in the game lead the Northstars to victory.
“A win is a win, but how we got it needs to be better. We can live with losing if we play the right way and leave it all on the line, but a lot of bad habits showed tonight and we will go back to work Tuesday and work on all of it” shared Noble.
“We had a bit of a slow start tonight and we can take away a few things from that game. We will come back on Tuesday and work at training to reset before the challenge of next weekend,” stated Nadin.
“A win is always great, but we expect more from ourselves, you know, we want to start better. We can’t go down in games like that, and we are a better team than that,” reflected defenseman Ethan Hawes.
Captain Liam Manwarring, reflected from the sidelines “it’s a good character win for the boys, and it was good to see it happen in regulation too. I don’t think it was our best, but I am proud of the boys for getting it done.”
“We’ve got some work to do this week ahead of next weekend, and the guys were battling tonight, but at the end of the day we are lucky we got the three points which is all that matters.”
